Day 1 - Wauchope to Glenbawn Dam

The plan for day one was to have a fairly easy day...... kinda ease myself into the trip. I got away from Wauchope at about 10 am. and set off  at a fairly casual pace. Wauchope to Comboyne, then a nice dirt track through Kilabakh to Wingham

From Wingham it was out to Gloucester  then through The Barrington Tops. This is a great ride although the recent rain meant that a lot of the dirt roads are very corrugated and potholed. This is where i encountered my only problem of the day, The cheap iPhone handlebar mount that i bought from eBay couldn't handle the vibrations and flew to pieces leavong my phone cartwheeling down the track at 90 km/h, fortunately it stayed in the case so it survived with only a bit of a crack to the screen to show for it

The plan was to get to Polblue campground in Barrington Tops and either camp there or head on to Glenbawn Dam, near Scone. I arrived at Polblue at about 2pm. It looked like a great spot to camp but it was still early and i was still feeling pretty fresh so i decided to head on to Glenbawn. I pulled up at a pine plantation and spotted a lyre bird. Followed him around for about 15 minutes trying to take his picture but with no luck.

I paid the $15 to get into the state park and cruised around the lakes edge until i found a nice secluded area right beside the lake to camp
Sunset was awesome over the water and the lake is teeming with birdlife.

The dam is also meant to be full of big hungry bass so i gave it a shot on dusk. No luck, but there are definately some fish here. Lots of swirls and splashes on the surface and i seen something cruising the shallows. I think it may have been a carp. Might give 'em another go in the morning.

Hopefully the weather is kind to me again tomorrow.
Total distance today 348km

  2. Hi Andy! A great start to your journey -- loved those magnificent Tree Ferns, the beautiful golden glow of the sunset on your camping spot, and a peaceful sunset over the lake. Photos look great when enlarged and well worth the wait. Thanks for sharing your adventure... Best wishes... Gladys, Western Australia...
